Clare O'Connor - Navigating the labyrinth | Ottobre 2016
I am an Irish artist with a BA in Visual Arts Practice & a BDES in Design Communications from IADT, Dublin graduating in 2001 and 2009. After graduating I lived and worked in Berlin for a few years and gained experience as an artist assistant for Thomas Kilpper and Anselm Reyle. I am currently living and working in Venice Italy where I have gained valuable experience working in the Venice Biennale and further developed my studio practice. The city has greatly inspired and informed my work. I have exhibited in Ireland, Germany and the UK.
My practice is playful and experimentative and my approach layers and fuses bold bright colour with contrasting stripes and energetic mark making. My work is mainly process based and intuitive and my recent practice toys with the dynamic interplay of organic and organized forms, complimentary and contrasting colour, repeated shapes, mark and void which when played off each other attempt to communicate a heightened sense of visual energy and create a unique and viscerally eclectic experience for the viewer. I like to work through various mediums with particular emphasis on Painting, Printmaking and Photography and combinations of all three. Over the past year I have created a series of paintings and etched prints combined with layers of paint and collage. All the works in this series have many layers and elements that combine to create the finished artworks. The series named Navigating the Labyrinth is influenced by the city of Venice and also my interest in the energetic levels of consciousness & the way in which we navigate our minds, subconscious and the world around us energetically. |
